Netbook Reflection 2013

Having a netbook connected to the internet helped me learn ,create, and share. I do all sorts of work on it. Blogging my work online is a huge opportunity, because I get to show my work and people all around the world can access it. People can comment on our posts.

This year I’ve learned a lot of things from using a netbook. I learnt how to write in a template that my teacher shared with us. All alone, I learned how to blog presentations. My friend also helped me with reimaging netbooks. One of the technicians taught me some shortcuts on Google docs. I've told others how to get on our sites, and how to comment thoughtful positive and helpful comments. Ive been able to view text from sites, and I’ve also been able to practice my math on Math Whizz.

Long Weekend Recount

Long weekend-
On Saturday Joan Alex and I walked to the bus stop. There we catched the bus and headed to mission to have some ice cream. When we jumped off the bus we walked to Kiwi Yo. It was nice and cool inside but packed with lots of people. Alex Joan and I then grabbed our cup and walked towards the ice cream station. I filled my cup with mango sorbet and then I put in little chopped up pieces of strawberry and went to go weigh it so that I could pay for it. I payed for mine then went outside and waited for Alex and Joan.

Then we headed down to the beach and had a little play in the water. The water was really warm and calm. After that we had a sand castle competition and I failed at building it. Joan shouted my name out and I was looking confused until I saw her where the big fountain was. She jumped in and was swimming like a little girl with other random little kids. I left Joan where she was and went to go look for Alex, while I was walking I spotted him on the adventure park.

Finally we decided to head back home, but instead we catched the bus to G.I and went to the Mcdonalds to have a little feed. We bought our food and sat down inside the park. Alex first finished his food and went to play on the park. It was around 5:30pm and we walked back home together. On our way back home we were planing about the next day and what we were going to do. We all decided to Ding Dong Ditch peoples house because we knew it was going to be a boring day. Overall we all had fun playing eating and many more things we did. I hope to do it again.

Racing the bell

Talk to your partner about the kind of breakfast you usually eat. Whats your favourite and why?
I never usually eat breakfast but out of all my favourite cereal to eat is Special K because to me its healthy.

If you’ve ever skipped breakfast how did make you feel? Did you notice anything about your energy level during the day?
Since I always skip breakfast it feels normal but then I become tired a bit during the day.

Look through the story together. What effects did missing breakfast have on Kate? How could she have avoided this?
Kate really struggled in the test, Kate couldn’t do well in P.E if she had breakfast.

Dance Fever

Thursday 21 November 2013

On a hot but rainy day we had Dance Fever. Today we started off with our cha-cha and then we got straight into the Fox-trot. On one side of the hall Captain was teaching the boys they're part of the dance and on the other Christina was teaching the girls. The steps were easy to learn and then at the end we practice our Hip-Hop routine twice. Finally at the end instead of playing a little game as we usually did we learnt another fun hip-hop routine and out of all songs we had to dance to Gangnam Style. Everyone went crazy when the chorus began especially the girls goig hard out.

Overall this was one of the best sessions ever

When we were at camp it began with a splash

When we were at camp it began when I heard a splash down at the beach. Megan and Ben hopped out of the car and ran down to the beach. Megan was 13 and Ben was 14 but Megan was the more mature one in their family. The beach they went to was at Muriwai, it was the most bestest beach ever in history to be found. It also has the biggest waves.

Megan and Ben went back to the car. As they got there they both pulled out their tents and began setting it up. Juts with a quick of a switch Megans tent was up. Ben wandered around without Megan knowing. Ben got to a point where he lost his way back to the car. He was panicking.

Megan turned around and Ben was gone. Megan tried calling her parents but there was no service. Ben was screaming for help. There was a huge wave coming towards him but he was allergic to salt water. “WOOOSH” was the sound that the waves made. Megan rushed out to sea and tried to bring him back, but at the same time she was trying to call her parents but there was still no service. “Help” cried Ben, Megan grabbed his hand a pulled him to shore. “Never ever do that Ben” muttered Megan with a bit of a shiver. Megan walked with Ben back to their tent spot and settled down while they were waiting for their parents to come.

Dance Fever 24.8.13

This morning the room 10 students had dance lessons with Dance Fever. We learnt a few more steps to our hip-hop routine. Then we learnt this new move called the canon. We had to get this move in time with the song because it wouldn't look right if we did the move with wrong timing. Next we learnt the basics for our cha-cha as we partnered up. The as we were ending our lesson Kristina asked us to think about a theme for our school as apart of our costumes. Overall I had fun today. Even though my day hasn't ended I reckon today was the highlight of my day;-)

This is the story of ROSE TOWN

During summer break Sophia, Trent and their family went on a vacation for 10 days at Rose Town. It was basically a forest but it with houses it was alright. “Wake up Trent we’re finally  here” said Sophia with excitement. Sophia is 12 and Trent is 9. Once they entered the house they jumped with gladness it was everything they had ever imagined. There was a pool, tennis court, basketball court and the kitchen was even filled with lollies.

Then Sophia decided to go explore the town a bit more so she went for a walk, so she left and started walking through the woods. Sophia could hear crunched leaves walking behind her, she turned around but there was no one there. “There it is again huh” said Sophia. Someone grabbed her and hustled her to the ground. I felt scared. They anonymous person behind me punched the lights out if me. When I woke up I was in a old rust dark house in the woods. “Oh hello how are you feeling MUAHAHAHAHA (evil laugh)” said the anonymous man.

Before Sophia even got up the man chainsawed her head and it came off like a snap of FUN STICKS. The anonymous man began to laugh in a cheeky voice “MUAHAHAHA”. Sophia family is still waiting for her to arrive back to Rose town, but she never returned.
THIS IS THE STORY OF ROSE TOWN!
The end;-)

Inquiry Presentation

Dance Fever Recount

Today 2 dance instructors from Dance Fever came to teach Room 10 students. It was our first lesson. We learnt the first few steps of the dance. It was a little bit awkward for me and Gemima because we had to pose in 3 different ways. We first got told the rule then we got straight into it.

Overall I had a blast because I got over my awkward feelings. I especially liked the end of the lesson because we got to play  a game. We had a Dance Fever dance battle at the end but the boys got all the points.

Pumping Pedals

1. Recall
Give a brief summary of the story.
Sally was the only girl that did BMX racing. They all go BMX racing down at the Tahunanui, Nelson.

2. Infer
What kind of a person is Sally Davies? Tell why you think this.
She is very competitive in racing. She also is kind of like a tomboy. She likes to compete in individual sport as well.

3. Evaluate
Explain why you think the author entitled the story as “Pumping Pedals”They named the story “Pumping Pedals” because its all about racing on bikes and you have to pedal real fast on the bikes.

Sally would like to attract more girls because she is the only girl that does BMX racing.

5. Recall
How are the bikes designed and what are they made of?They’re light aluminium, titanium or carbon fibre. They are smaller than mountain bikes, they have small wheels with thick chunky tires.

6. Think about it.
Why did Sally groan as she remembered her first racing bike?Cause she didn’t know how hard you had to work to achieve BMX racing

7. Please explain the racing technique called “pumping” and why it might be important?
It might be that name because you have to pump your legs on the pedals

8. Do you think BMX racing is a dangerous sport. Tell why or why not you think this.
I kinda think BMX racing is dangerous because you never know the person in front of you is gonna swizzle and the bumps that are on the tracks.

9. Synthesize

Please tell what you liked most about the story and why or why not you would like to be a BMX racer. I like BMX because you have fun and it can be exercise for your calf muscles. You will also have so much fun and meet new friends.

Camp experience at GBI

WOW. What a fantastic time we had at camp. Our camp was at the Great Barrier Island at Karaka Bay.
At camp we all experienced new things, and as it was only year 7&8's I think we have gotten closer to each other. The most fun activities I did was High ropes. I have never done anything like that before. We were as high as mountain tops although it was scary at the same time. Well I also enjoyed over night. My group walked to a little hut in the middle of no where. We also walked over a really scary dodgy bridge. When It was our last day everyone was a bit sad because they all wanted to stay. I had fun at camp even though it was my first time experiencing what camp was like.

Why over stayers get deported

“Are you worried that one day you might get deported from NZ?”
People from other countries come to NZ to live. Some others have an expiry date on their visa and when they stay  longer thats how they get deported back. I believe that overstayers should stay in NZ, so they could get a better education, be better connected with their family and they can contribute to the society with skills they learnt from their country in all topics.

First of all, Education is important for us because we learn things that we have to learn in life. They can learn how to read and get told things you ain't allowed to do in the future Education takes us to a higher level in the future. It also gets the overstayers higher grades. Good jobs will help the overstayers and it helps the family in the future.

In fact Overstayers should stay in NZ to get closer to their family members.                                   In addition, Some family members of theres can help the over stayers to get a great life. Also they can get family members to sign the papers so that they can finally be a NZ citizen.

In addition, The society should contribute to this, so more kids  could get more opportunities for their own life and care. They should let little kids from other country come and learn here and get a better life. People such as overstayers wouldn't want to be deported back to their own country after 3 or 4 years living in NZ. They might of found a home brought a new car felt like they belong here and last of all made close friends. I feel sad about the government not letting the overstayers come to live in NZ for good because some of my family members my get deported back if their visa date might be expired and so I might not see them any more.

As you can see it is extremely important that the immigration should consider the people whose more settled with life here in NZ and probably send the horrible people who do bad things in NZ back to their countries. I believe the government should change the law, so that it can be fair for all the overstayers to come and live in NZ  for good.

Softball

Today was a very cold and windy day. We had a softball session with some softball coaches. First they introduced themselves to us then we played octopus for a warm up game. We learnt the same basic skills but with a softball glove on.

Then we got straight into it. My partner and I were facing opposite each other. We had to stand in the monkey position, which was the very for the first skill we learnt was the crocodile. We also
learnt the 12 o’clock catch.

Last we had a competition. For each catch we catched we had to take 1 step back. If you don't catch the ball then you stay in the same spot. Then the 3 teams made nearly up to the top of the field. The rest of us went to go sit down and watch the other teams playing. There were only 2 people in a team. The 3 teams were competing to win and it only came down to 2 teams. After a while there was 1 team that won and went to class with nothing.

The Great Alfonso Q&A

  4.    What do you think is the main idea of the poem?  To show everyone that the great Alfonso has special skills at being a magician

 5.    What is the new trick the magician is training to do?
Float a goat

6.    Does Alfonso use complicated tricks or words in his show any more?
No because he's sticking to simple magician tricks

 7.   Do you think the information in this poem would be useful if you wished to become a magician? Quite likely because some of his tricks sound easy to master

  8.   What question would you ask Bertie? How does it feel to cut people in half and just leave the person there?

Can you think of a possible problem with teaching a goat to float?
The great Alfonso might fail his trick because the goat might be too heavy to be floating

Can you think of a solution to Bertie’s problems?
If its possible to do an undo trick for magicians then ‘Bertie’ can probably do the undo trick to save the lady from just sitting there and dying in the box she got sawed in.

Do you believe magician’s require much skill, practice and training?

Yes because if you're on stage and you forget to train but you think you know how to master it, you might fail and look like a total fool

Softball Recount

On the second day back at school I was surprised to find out that we had a softball session with three ladies from Auckland Sport. As we walked in a straight quiet line there were 2 ladies who introduced themselves to us students.
Firstly we played a warm up game. The game we played was ‘Red light Green Light’
The aim of that warm up game was to stop when its Red light and go when its Green light. After a while we had to pair up in partners. We lined on the white and yellow line facing the opposite of each other. We learned how to throw the ball straight, and make it bounce.

Overall I had a fun time learning new skills and I’m looking forward to learning more new skills.

Movie Day With Tame'e

Yay! In the holidays Tame’e and I went to the movies. We decided to watch despicable me 2. First we went to buy our ticket then we zoomed off like rockets to buy some snacks and drinks for our movie.
When we came back to the movie theater. “Oh we’re lucky we got here in time” Tame’e said while she was catching her breath.
We pulled out our movie tickets to show the security that we have paid. We walked in as quiet as cats so we didn’t disturb anyone. We pulled out our snacks and slowly opened them so no noise would be heard. “SSSHH” I said whisperly to some people at the back of us because they were as loud as 10 million parrots talking at once. Advertisements were shown right before the movie and that part was really boring.

The movie started and everyone slowly started to quieten down and little yellow minions were talking in an alien type of voice. The little minions were so cute. As the beginning of the movie had started

Tame’e and I were laughing because a man was dressed up as fairy for a specials girls birthdays. The little girls name was Agnes and she was a HUGE fan of unicorn.
The movie was half way through and I was so entertained from it. The movie was Hilarious.
I was stuffing HUGE hand fulls in my mouth. We still had heaps of lollies and chips in our bags.

The movie had ended. It was a great animation movie, even though it was suitable for younger children Tame’e and I still found the movie entertaining for us. We both had a funny time watching Despicable me 2. Hopefully we do this again sometime next holidays.
