Phil’s Machines
Who wrote the article -  Lindy Kelly
Who took the photos for the article - Lindy Kelly

What did Phil love when he was a boy? Digging in a dirt bank
What is a dirt bank? Dirt on a slope

What did Phil do when he left school? He got a job driving 50-tonne bulldozers and 80-tonne motor scrapers

How many diggers does Phil own? 4 Diggers
How many people work for Phil? 2 other people

Why did Phil get tired of seeing other people’s names on the side of the truck? Because he was working harder than everyone else.

Does Phil work long hours? Yes. He works 8-10 hours and 7 days a week

Why? To earn more credits each day

What safety gear do the workers wear? They wear brights orange helmets and bright green vests with orange reflective tapes

Why is it important to wear these? So the person driving the digger can see you and you won’t get run over

On page 24-25 parts of the machines and its functions are listed. Write down each part and explain what it does.
Rock breaker:Smashes rocks
Mulcher:Chew branches into little pieces
Ripper:It rips up the hard rocks and ground
Root rake:Clearing sticks and branches
Bucket:Scoops up dirt
Tree grab:Removes and stacks trees

Phil is looking for more employees. Apply for the job and write a letter to Phil telling him about you and what you can do for the job.
